The Plan for the conference

Towards a New Contract Between Universities and Society?
A historical sociological perspective on the Lisbon Strategy and EU policies of higher education and research

Bergen - May 18-19, 2006

The conference will be organised as a workshop under the overall chairmanship of Professor Olav Korsnes, Department of Sociology at the University of Bergen. Two specific working groups or sessions (see more details under Conference Invitation and Call for Papers) will be organized on the basis of the topics and numbers of papers submitted. The invited speakers of the sessions will also link the group work and their talks to the topics of the main speaker at the conference, Professor dr. habil Hannes Siegrist.

The conference is scheduled for a total of 50 participants including 10 participants enrolled within a PhD programme.

All participants are urged to present a paper at the conference. However, please note that paper presentation is not required for participation. Also shorter forms of presentations are welcomed, for example presentation of ongoing research, research ideas, relevant networks, etc.

All participants who wish to attend the conference with a paper must submit an abstract. The abstract should not exceed 500 words.

Submit abstract online. The deadline for submitting an abstract is April 1st 2006.

Please indicate if you are a PhD student and wish to have your paper evaluated. PhD students may have conference attendance accepted as part of their doctoral training programme, provided they present a paper. A final version of the paper will be evaluated after the conference, being eligible for 10 ECTS study points if approved by the organizing committee.

A detailed program will be posted on the website in a couple of weeks. The deadline for submitting final papers will also be updated on the web-site with other kinds of practical information etc.

It is our intention that a selection of the best papers of the conference will be published in a book.
